Terms of Service
Last Updated: August 20, 2026
By adding Argus ("the Bot") to your Discord server, using its features, or signing in to its web dashboard, you agree to these Terms of Service.
1. Acceptance of Terms
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country) to use this service. By using Argus, you also agree to comply with:
If you add Argus on behalf of an organisation or community, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for it.
2. Usage Rules
- Permitted Use: Argus is provided for server moderation and security, including its web dashboard.
- Prohibited Use: You may not attempt to reverse engineer, bypass, or maliciously exploit the bot's filtering systems (including the AI image classifier, the context-aware filter, and message buffers); overload the bot or its dashboard with automated requests; resell or sublicense access to it; or use it to harass, surveil, or profile members beyond ordinary moderation.
- Responsibility: Server owners are responsible for how the bot is configured, and for the moderation decisions it carries out on their behalf.
Important:
We are not liable for accidental message deletions or timeouts resulting from your specific configuration choices.
3. Automated Moderation
Argus acts automatically. Once you enable a filter, it can delete messages, warn, time out, kick, or ban members with no human in the loop.
- Filters are heuristics, not judgements. They will sometimes flag something harmless and sometimes miss something harmful. This includes the Context-Aware (AI) filter, which assigns a hostility score to a message — a statistical estimate, not a determination of what anyone actually meant.
- Tuning is your responsibility. Sensitivity thresholds, which categories are active, and what each filter does are yours to set. A dry-run mode is provided so you can watch what the AI filter would flag before letting it act — we recommend using it.
- Not a compliance product. Argus is not a substitute for human moderation and does not make your server compliant with any law, platform policy, or safety standard. You remain responsible for your community.
- Link safety is best-effort. URL checks rely on a third-party threat database (Google Safe Browsing). A link Argus does not flag is not thereby certified safe.
4. Web Dashboard & Accounts
The dashboard lets you sign in with Discord to configure the bot, review analytics, manage appeals, and run backups.
- You may only manage servers in which you hold the required Discord permissions.
- You are responsible for actions taken through your account, and for keeping your Discord account secure.
- You may not attempt to access data for a server you do not have permission to manage, or interfere with the dashboard's authentication, rate limits, or other protections.
- Access is provided "as is"; we may change or remove dashboard features at any time.
5. Appeals & Backups
- Ban Appeals: Where enabled, appeals are reviewed at the sole discretion of the server's moderators. Submitting false, abusive, or spam appeals is prohibited. We do not mediate between a member and a server's staff, and we do not overturn a server's decision.
- Server Backups: Restoring a backup is destructive — it deletes and recreates roles and channels — and can only be initiated by the server owner. You are responsible for the backups you create and restore. Backups are a convenience, not a guaranteed archive: keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.
6. Service Availability
Argus is provided "as is" and "as available." While we strive for high uptime, we do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we offer no service level agreement.
- Maintenance windows may occur without prior notice.
- Argus may run across multiple servers with automatic failover; a failover can cause a brief interruption in moderation coverage.
- The public status page is provided for information only. Figures shown there are our own measurements and are not a warranty or a contractual commitment.
- While Argus is offline, messages are not queued for retroactive scanning.
7. Intellectual Property
Argus, its source code, dashboard, branding, and documentation remain the property of its developers. These terms grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive right to use the hosted service — not a licence to copy, redistribute, or create derivative works from it.
Your data stays yours: your configuration, moderation records, notes and backups belong to you (or your server), and we claim no ownership over them. Third-party components are governed by their own licences.
8. Feedback
If you send us suggestions, bug reports, or feature ideas, we may use them to improve Argus without obligation, compensation, or confidentiality.
9. Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Argus is provided without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
In no event shall the bot developers be liable for any damages (including, without limitation, loss of data or profit) arising out of the use or inability to use the bot, even if notified of the possibility of such damage. This includes damages arising from moderation actions Argus takes or fails to take, from a backup restore, and from any service interruption.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
10. Indemnity
You agree to hold the bot's developers harmless from claims brought by your members or third parties arising out of how you configured Argus, the moderation decisions made in your server, or your breach of these terms.
11. Termination
We reserve the right to terminate access to the bot for any server that:
- Violates these terms.
- Engages in behavior that threatens the stability of the service.
- Violates Discord's platform policies.
You may terminate at any time by removing Argus from your server; see the Privacy Policy for what happens to your data. Sections 7, 9 and 10 survive termination.
12. Changes to Terms
- Continued use of the bot after updates constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
- We recommend checking this page periodically for changes.
- If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
